PM Chairs High Level Security Meet

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chaired a high-level national security meeting at his residence on Saturday. On the agenda was the situation arising out of intelligence alerts of possible terror threats to the coastal parts of Maharashtra and Goa.

The meeting, attended by some of the security officials in the country, lasted for over two-and-a-half hour’s and is reported to have also taken up the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, where the Amarnath Yatra is currently underway.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister AK Antony, Home Minister P Chidambaram, National Security Advisor MK Narayanan and new Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao attended the meeting.

The three service chiefs were also present on the occasion.
