People of Country “Shocked” over Indo-Pak Joint Statement: BJP
Describing the Indo-Pakistan joint statement issued in Egypt as shocking, the BJP has asked the UPA government to rethink over its stand on holding talks with Islamabad.
“The entire country is shocked over the joint statement issued by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani in Egypt saying that terrorism should not be linked to the composite dialogue process,” senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu told media persons in Hyderabad.
He emphasized that the “so-called joint statement” is not acceptable to people and is against their spirit and sentiments, especially in the wake of last year’s Mumbai terror attacks.
The BJP leader said that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, after 26/11, had categorically announced that there was no question of holding talks with Pakistan unless there were sufficient evidence of Pakistan’s taking action against its nationals who masterminded Mumbai terror attacks, and launches initiatives to dismantle the terror infrastructure on its soil, the BJP said.
Maintaining that Pakistan has failed to take any positive steps against terrorism, Naidu said that its inaction against Hafiz Saeed, alleged mastermind of Mumbai terror attack, was a clear sign about the intention of the neigbouring country.
“Pakistan has adopted a typical stand on terrorism. It has been fighting against it with the help of America on its Western border (Afghanistan), where as it is abetting terrorism on its Eastern border (India),” the BJP leader said.
“It was like total surrender from the Indian side to agree for dialogue with Pakistan and people of the country felt let down by the action of the Indian government,” Naidu said.
