Pawar Wants Poll Truck with Cong for Assembly Elections

Though the alliance between the NCP and Congress was being considered as a remote possibility for the Assembly elections in Maharashthra, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has said that he wants a truck with the Congress.

The alliance between the two parties has run into rough weather over the seat-sharing issue.

Pawar said that the NCP had asked the Congress for the same seat-sharing arrangement as the last time. It should be noted that there are only nine days to go before the date for filing nominations for the Maharshthra Assembly elections expire, but there is not outline chalked for the Congress-NCP alliance.

Congress, after gaining 18 seats in the state in the Lok Sabha elections, wants an increased share of seats to contest.

Moreover, media reports say that some Congress leaders were of the opinion that the party could well be able to replicate the Uttar Pradesh sort of victory in Maharashtra by going it alone.

However, the NCP’s Praful Patel admitted in an interview that if the two parties decide to contest elections separately, it could ultimately benefit the BJP.

The Congress will meet internally in the Capital this weekend to finalise seats. Elections to all 288 seats in Maharashtra will be held on October 13, the eve of Diwali. Counting will be held on October 22.
