Pak Should Abandon Distinction on Terrorism: Tharoor

Noting distinction being made within Pakistan on certain elements as “good terrorist and bad terrorist”, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday said that Pakistan should combat terrorism in any form.

Elaborating on the phrase, Tharoor said that the good terrorists are those who kill Indians in India and the bad terrorists are those who attack Pakistani interests whether in Afghanistan or in Pakistan.

Speaking to a TV channel, he said: “In other words, you blow up the Taj Mahal hotel you’re a good guy, you blow up the Marriot in Islamabad you’re a bad guy.”

Nevertheless, Tharorr emphasized that this attitude is not attributable to the highest levels of the neighbouring government but to “some elements”.

When asked if India was convinced that Pakistan was genuinely committed to ending the militancy, Tharoor noted that once the distinction between “good terrorists and bad terrorists” disappears, then it would finally “be a case of Dr Frankenstein really deciding he has to execute his own monster”.
