Pak Accusation of India Funding Taliban Absurd, Baseless: Antony

A day after Pakistan accused India of funding Taliban and provoking unrest, India has rubbished  the charge as ‘absurd’ and ‘totally baseless’ and said that Taliban is the greatest threat to world peace.

“It is absurd and totally baseless. India cannot support Taliban, which is the greatest threat to world peace,” Defence Minister A K Antony told reporters on the sidelines of a defence function in New Delhi.

He gave the remark when he was asked a query about Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s charge.

Yesterday, Malik had claimed that India was fomenting unrest within Pakistan through steps such as funding Taliban fighters based along the border with Afghanistan.

While replying to a query whether he suspected India’s hand behind ongoing unrest in Pakistan, he told a TV news channel that he was ‘convinced’ that India is among ‘certain hostile agencies’ that are backing the Taliban to create instability in Pakistan.

In Bangalore, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna had rejected the charges on Monday, saying, “We want Taliban and Talibanism to be totally eliminated.”
