One Person Killed in Stone-pelting in Srinagar

In an attack on a minibus by stone pelting youths, one person was on Friday killed in Batmaloo locality of central Srinagar, reported PTI.

According to report, Shafiq Ahmad Sheikh, 40, was on travelling from Natipora to Batmaloo when he was hit by a stone on the head receiving serious injuries.

Police said that Sheikh was then rushed to S K Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, where he succumbed to his wounds, said report.

The group of youths indulged in stone pelting to forcibly close the shops in the locality in protest against precautionary measures being taken by the officials to stop a march planned by hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who was put under house arrest.

On February 22, an 11-day-old boy had died after he fell from his mothers arms during an attack on a mini-bus by a group of stone pelting protestors in Baramulla district.
