One Civilian Killed, Five Others Injured as Army Fires at Militants in J&K

As the army fired at suspected militants, a civilian was killed and five others were injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, reported IANS.

According to report, troops from the 53 Rashtriya Rifles laid an ambush near Chewan Keller village.

“On noticing some movement, they opened fire, killing a civilian and wounding another,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying.

As soon as the news of killing spread, crowds took to streets shouting anti-India slogans with protestors also stoning passing army vehicles and torching two of them, report said.

Report said that soldiers escorting a convoy opened fire injuring four more villagers, one of them critically.

The injured were taken to Srinagar for specialised treatment, report said.
