Prime Minister Narendra Modi slams cow vigilantes, says killing people in name of cow protection not acceptable

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra on Thursday visited Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad during his two-day Gujarat and slammed cow vigilantes. In a strong message to cow vigilantes, Modi invoked Mahatman Gandhi to slam those involved in violence in the name of protecting cows.

Speaking at a public event after visiting the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, PM Modi said, “Killing people in the name of gau bhakti is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve. We are the land of non-violence. We are the land of Mahatma Gandhi. Why do we forget this.”

“As a society, there is no place for violence. Today, I want to say a few words and express sadness on some of the things going on. No one spoke about protecting cows more than Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave. Yes. It should be done. We are the land of non-violence. We are the land of Mahatma Gandhi. Why do we forget this?” he said.

‘No person in this nation has the right to take the law in his or her own hands. Violence never has and never will solve any problem. Let’s all work together. Let’s create the India of Mahatma Gandhi’s dreams. Let’s create an India our freedom fighters would be proud of,” he added.
