Notices to 85 Telecom companies

New Delhi: Telecom minister, Kapil Sibal on Monday decided to act on the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) regarding the illegality of the licences. Kapil Sibal decided to send out show cause notices to all 85 erring companies involved in the 2G spectrum scam.

Sibal said in a press conference, “we have decided to send notice to 85 companies and they will be given 60 days time to answer.”

“The action will be taken based on merit and see if the Memorandum of Association and equity conditions has been fulfilled or not,” Sibal added.

According to CAG’s (Comptroller and Auditor General of India) report pronounced in 2008, out of the 122 license issued, 85 license were issued without fulfilling the basic eligibility criteria.

Considering the CAG report many Telecom companies are under scanner, included Uninor, Loop Telcom, Aliance Infratech which later merged with Etisalat telecom, Videocon telecom and Estel.
