No Plan to Oust Buddha, Yechuri

Rubbishing speculations of a CPI(M) maneuver to oust West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee from office, politburo member Sitaram Yechuri on Sunday stressed that the patriarch would continue in the position.

Responding to rumors triggered by a newspaper report, Yechuri said: “There is nothing like this on the agenda”

He cited ill health as the reason behind Bhattacharjee’s absence at the recent politburo conclave in New Delhi.

“He was sick and that was why he could not come. It is as simple as that. If you want to make a news out of it, you can interpret in your own way,” he said to reporters at Kolkata airport before leaving for Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Bhattacharjee, whose two-day visit to north Bengal was extended due to ill-health, has returned to the state capital and resumed official functioning.
