Congratulatory messages poured in from world leaders as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set for a second consecutive term in power with the BJP

Narendra Modi was set for a second consecutive term in power with the BJP-led NDA winning even more seats than in 2014.

Leaders from across the world including China, Japan, Russia, Israel, Singapore, Vietnam, Pakistan,US, Maldives, Bangladesh and Australia sent congratulatory messages to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his second consecutive victory in the general elections and expressed their willingness to deepen engagement with the country. Congratulatory messages poured in from world leaders as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set for a second consecutive term  in power with the BJP-led NDA winning even more seats than in 2014.

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu was the first world leader to congratulate his counterpart Narendra Modi, for scripting an “impressive victory” in the general elections, and vowed to strengthen their “great friendship” as well as bilateral ties.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to Prime Minister Modi, where he noted the great importance he attached to development of India-China relations, and his desire to work with PM Modi to take their “closer development partnership” to newer heights.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Thursday congratulated his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government looked all set to form the government for a second term at the Centre. “Congratulations to @narendramodi on a magnificent victory! We look forward to working closely with you,” Mr Wickremesinghe tweeted.

Russian President Vladimir Putin who was the first P-5 leader to telephone Modi expressed hope that the two leaders will work jointly to consolidate strategic partnership and further build on their chemistry.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan today congratulated his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi after the BJP swept the national election in trends released by the Election Commission.”I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on the electoral victory of BJP and allies. Look forward to working with him for peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia,” tweeted Imran Khan, a former cricketer who became Pakistan’s Prime Minister in August last year.

PM Modi, responded, by saying he has “always given primacy to peace and development in our region.”
