NIA nabs 2 more terror suspects for court blasts

New Delhi/Madurai: The NIA, which has launched a massive operation in south India to target Al-Qaeda and ISIS operatives as well as terror sympathisers, on Tuesday arrested two more persons who were planning to carry out serial explosions. The duo are also said to be involved in blasts outside court premises in Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh since April this year.

Those arrested on Tuesday have been identified as Mohammed Ayub Ali and Shamsudeen, 25, both residents of Madurai.

Meanwhile, the Melur Judicial Magistrate Court in Madurai on Tuesday issued transit warrants for NIA officials to transfer to Bengaluru the 4 terror suspects who were arrested a day earlier. Abbas Ali (27) from Ismailpuram, Samsum Karim Raja from K Pudur, Mohammed Ayud Ali (25) from Island Nagar and Shamsudeen (25) from Nelpatti will be produced at a NIA special court in the Karnataka capital.

Appearing for the NIA, public prosecutor Arjun told the court that the 4 had indulged in 5 bomb blast cases reported in court complexes in Chittoor, Kollam and Malappuram in Kerala, Mysuru and Nellore in 2006. “They have committed serious crime against the judiciary,” Arjun said. Advocate SMA Jinnah, who appeared for the 4 youth, claimed that they were innocent.
