Muthalik Banned from Mangalore for a Year

In a massive blow to right-wing organisations in the midst of preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, a Mangalore court on Monday banned Pramod Muthalik, chief of the controversial Sri Ram Sene, from entering Dakshina Kannada district for one year.

The Sene shot to infamy when its activists belonging to the fundamental outfit physically assaulted young couples dancing at a city pub in January.

A report on the IANS website, attributing the information to an official spokesperson, says, the district administration in Dakshina Kannada passed a 15-page order to bar Muthalik’s entry to the district.

The reasons cited by the administration, include an attack on young women in a Mangalore pub in January and the repeated threats issued by the Sene on Valentine’s Day.

The order by district magistrate V Ponnuraj comes into immediate effect.

Some 40 activists of the previously unknown Sene barged into a Mangalore pub and thrashed a group of young women and men, the Sene said the attack was brought on by the youngsters by violating traditional Indian values.

A month later despite widespread criticism in the media, Muthalik repeatedly issued threats to disrupt Valentine’s Day celebrations.
