Mumbai showed a massive jump with 59 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the spike across in Maharashtra to 72. The state currently has more than 300 patients of COVID-19. Sources said the numbers climbed as private labs released the results of their tests conducted over the last three days. The spike in numbers across India was 227 on Monday – the highest in a 24-hour window. Maharashtra became the second state on Tuesday after Telangana to cut salaries of its employees.

Maharashtra announced a pay cut for government employees on Tuesday under which the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Cabinet ministers will take a 60% pay cut. The pay cut, however, would not apply to those involved in essential services.
