More rainfall across several regions in the country

Several parts of the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, the northeast, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Jharkhand received several bouts of rain in the last 24 hours.

The wet spell across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and many other states is likely to continue for the coming days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin. The particular states have been receiving rainfall in the last few days and are projected to experience more rain from March 23, 2023.

West Bengal, Sikkim and several areas in Northeast India are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, lightning and gusty winds from March 21 to 23.

Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya from March20-22, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to receive heavy downpour on March 21.

It may be noted that a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from March 23, the IMD stated.

The eastern states of India are expected to experience no significant change in maximum temperatures that are likely to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius today and tomorrow.

Gujarat and Maharashtra are expected to see a rise in maximum temperatures by 3-5 °C during the next 4-5 days

After a sunny day, Mumbai, Thane, and other adjoining areas began receiving sudden rains on Monday night, leading to waterlogging in some areas.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate spells of rain with gusty winds were likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad on Monday morning.

Delhi on Monday received the highest 24-hour rainfall for March in the past three years, recording 6.6 mm precipitation in just three hours, the India Meteorological Department said. Heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, lashed parts of Delhi on Monday, causing waterlogging in many areas.

A ‘yellow’ alert for thunderstorms, lightning and hailstorms in isolated places in the low and middle-hills has been issued by the weather office for March 24.

The MeT office has forecast a wet spell in the region till March 26.
