Modi Likely to Depose before SIT Today in Gujarat Riots Case

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi could today appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is probing a 2002 post-Godhra riot case, said media reports quoting sources.

Besides, Modi’s counsel Mahesh Jethmalani also confirmed the date earlier and informed that March 27 was the mutually agreed date on which the chief minister would present himself before the SIT, reports said.

However, the venue and time of appearance remains to be a closely-guarded secret, reports said.

Earlier, confusion prevailed when SIT chief RK Raghuvanshi said that Modi would depose on March 21, while in an open letter, Modi later claimed that he was not summoned on that date, said reports.

Modi was summoned by SIT in connection with a complaint of Zakia Jaffery, widow of former Congress MP Eshan Jaffery, who was killed in the riot at Gulburg Society along with 69 others.
