MNS Workers Vandalise Airtel Showrooms in Mumbai, Thane

MNS workers vandalized two Airtel showrooms in Mumbai and Thane for not using Marathi, reported NDTV.

Hours after party chief Raj Thackeray’s address to workers on party’s fourth birthday, some MNS workers attacked Airtel showrooms in Mumbai and Thane as they don’t use Marathi in their pre-recorded messages for customers, said report.

In his address, Raj had said that Airtel had been warned to use Marathi for their Interactive Voice Reponse (IVR) messages – the pre-recorded messages customers hear e.g. Dial 1 for Account Update, report said.

Swiftly responding, Airtel committed that Marathi would now be a medium of instruction for its callers along with English and Hindi, said report.

Speaking to reporters later, party leader Shirish Parkar said that party representatives would consult with telecom operators like Airtel, report said.

However, he said that some of the people involved with the attack on the Airtel showrooms may not have been from the MNS, said report.

He said that other telecom operators have got in touch with him after the Airtel vandalisation, and he has reassured them, “we don’t want to make the situation worse, we have cautioned our activists.”
