Former Delhi minister Kapil Mishra assaulted by AAP MLAs inside Delhi Assembly

New Delhi: Sacked leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Delhi minister Kapil Mishra was beaten up by fellow AAP MLAs inside the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday.

According to media reports, Mishra was raising a banner demanding a special session at Ramlila Maidan when AAP MLAs roughed him up.

The assembly, which had convened to discuss the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, was disrupted after a group of AAP legislators collectively attacked Mishra and one of them even attempted to strangle him. Members of opposition parties intervened to rescue Mishra, resulting in a scuffle between the two groups.

“I was not given a chance to speak in the House, so I made a demand for a special session to be called at Ramlila Maidan. Suddenly, they (AAP legislators) rushed at me… they pushed me, pummelled me on the chest and some of them kicked me from behind,” Mishra told reporters.

Earlier, Mishra had allegedly been attacked at his residence by a man who claimed to be an AAP volunteer. The attacker, who has been identified as Ankit Bhardwaj, allegedly ran over to Mishra and hit him on the neck before he was pulled aside by Mishra’s supporters. The attacker was roughed up and his clothes were torn off by the mob.
