Minister Pledges Action in Delhi Metro Mishap

Hours after Delhi Metro bridge collapsed, killing 6 and injuring 11, a yet another accident came to pass at rail construction site in South Delhi as at least three cranes trying to lift an iron girder came crashing down at the buildings and slum clusters nearby.

Answering the Lok Sabha, Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, terming the accident as unfortunate, said that no compromise would be made on the Delhi Metro project in view of the Commonwealth Games 2010.

A panel was formed to investigate into the matter after Sunday’s accident, which comprises of Prof Nagal from IIT, Prof BR Bose Delhi College of Engineering (DCE). Steve Lorie and Rajen Katharia from DMRC.

Reddy said that the panel will summit its report in another 10 days.

“The report will be submitted in another 10 days i.e likely by July 22. Any accident is unfortunate, however we must look at the past records of DMRC in accidents,” he says.

“The committee will go into the method of constructions and precautions taken and will summit its report,” Reddy adds.

“The accident didn’t happen due to the fast completion of the project. If found responsible, action will be taken against Gammon India ,” he affirms.
