Medical Student Rape Case: HC Upholds Life Term of One, Sets Free Other

In the case of 2002 gang rape of a Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) student, the Delhi High Court has upheld life imprisonment for one, observing that he acted ‘not only as a beast but also as a savage, reported IANS.

Report said that the other person who was held guilty by a lower court was set free.

Maintaining life imprisonment for Rahul, a division bench comprising of Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Suresh Kaid was quoted as saying: “He (Rahul) acted not only as a beast but also as a savage.”

However, Amit, the other person who was held guilty by a lower court was set free by the court which said that he had already served his punishment, said report.

The verdict in the case came five years after both Rahul and Amit were held guilty of raping a medical student by a lower court, said report.

It may be mentioned that the victim, a fourth year student at MAMC, was raped by the duo at knife point on the terrace of the Mughal monument Khooni Darwaza in central Delhi on November 15, 2002.

The trial court in 2005, had acquitted the other two people involved in the case.
