Mayawati Says No Alliance

With curdling ties between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress racing towards an imminent split, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo, Mayawati on Wednesday played her cards close to her chest and said her party has no plans to enter into an alliance with any party in any of the states for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“Our party has not entered into any alliance with any party. BSP is contesting the elections on its own,” she said while speaking to correspondents in Lucknow.

She was responding to speculations of if her visits to various states could be translated into an eagerness to forge alliances with other parties.

Quelling speculation fires, Mayawati clarified that her visits to the states were focused on garnering support for party candidates there.

The politically astute suggest that the no-go stance adopted by Mayawati’s BSP, the ruling BJD in Orissa and indications of estrangement between the JD(U) and the BJP are to be closely watched in the run up to the battle for the Lok Sabha.
