Maoists Set off Mine Blast in Jhh’khand, 11 Security Personnel Killed

At least 11 security personnel were killed and six others injured in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Jharkhand on Wednesday, said police.

The attackers blew up a landmine targeting a police patrol in West Singhbhum district, about 160km (100 miles) from the state capital, Ranchi.

The incident took place in Serengda-Aruanga village of the district when a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police was returning in a mini truck after a two-day patrolling in Naxal-infested Saranda forest, Director General of Police (DGP) V D Ram said.

In 11 security personnel killed, one was a CRPF Inspector.

Police reinforcements have been sent to the area and a search operation is on. The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Kolhan) Monoj Mishra is heading the team.

The attack comes just a day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke about the Red threat in Parliament.

“If Left-wing extremism continues to flourish in many parts of country which have tremendous resources of minerals and other precious things then that will certainly affect the climate for investment. In dealing with Left-wing extremism we have to convince some of the misguided youth that violence is no way of solving any problem,” Singh had said while replying to the Lok Sabha Debate on President’s address.
