Maoists Set Free Kidnapped Teacher in West Midnapore

Maoists have released school teacher and CPM leader Ranjit Duley unharmed whom they had kidnapped on March 4 at gunpoint from a school in Bankura district, reported ANI.

Duley was released in West Midnapore district at a distant place between Goaltore and Pingboni at near 1:15 am to a select team of electronic media, which took him to Lalgarh police station, said report.

In exchange for his release, the rebels had earlier insisted on release of their six cadres arrested for killing Sarenga police station in-charge Rabi Lochan Mitra on February 25.

On a tip-off that Duley was taken to Bhalukbasa jungle in West Midnapore district, the joint forces had cordoned off the area and traded fire with the Maoists, killing a cadre on Sunday, said report.

Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh had said that there was no question of releasing the Maoists.
