Maoist Mayhem: SP among Three Dozen Cops Killed in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Suffering heavy casualties. Twenty-six police personnel, including a Superintendent of Police, were killed in two separate Maoist attacks, in the Naxal-infested Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, say media reports.

According to the PTI News Agency, the state police confirmed that 24 of its men, including SP VK Choubey, were killed when Maoists ambushed a police party led by him.

The posse was on its way to a police camp at Madanwada where the militants had killed two police personnel on Sunday morning.

The incident, one of the bloodiest in recent times, lends credence to speculations of this tribal belt still being in control of the rebels and blows the covers off contrary claims made by the Chhattisgarh state government.
