Manmohan is Congress, UPA Choice for PM

In the midst of huge speculations over the nomenclature of the next government at the Center and the proportionate melee of aspiring prime ministers, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Sunday iterated that Manmohan Singh was the indisputable choice for the top office for both the Congress and the UPA.

“Manmohan Singh is our PM, he is UPA’s PM,” said Gandhi at an election meeting in support of party Lok Sabha candidate Harish Choudhury in Barmer, Rajasthan.

Lampooning the BJP over the ‘India Shining’ campaign, the young parliamentarian said: “NDA has India Shining ideology, its India for stock market, privatisation and the rich and the elite.”

He contrasted his attacks on the BJP by highlighting his party’s agenda which, he said, revolved around development and wefare of the ‘aam aadmi.’

“I can never say that India is shining till the time there is even one single poor person living in the country,” said the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi clan who has repeatedly said that he does not nurse aspirations for the top office at this juncture.

Seeking electoral respite in what till now has been a low scoring match, Gandhi claimed that the Congress-led government had waived off farm loans worth Rs 70,000 crores and launched schemes such as the national employment guarantee scheme and introduced mid-day meals at schools for the benefit of farm communities.
