Mamata Unhappy with Congress over Betrayal in Siliguri

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is infuriated at the Congress for opting to align with the Left for the Siliguri mayor poll.

Mamata said that she would soon pay visit to Siliguri and ask for people’s apology who wanted a Cogress-Trinamool municipal body.

“I will go to Siliguri and beg forgiveness from the people. The Congress has betrayed the people of Siliguri. We are supporting Manmohan Singh in Delhi. Congress should have supported us too. I will discuss the future of the alliance with Congress with my workers,” she said.

At the same time, she said that the Congress has betrayed the people of Siliguri and that she expected that the Congress would back her party.

Trinamool chief made it clear that she wouldn’t take up the issue for discussion with the Congress, but discuss it with her party workers for the future of her party’s alliance with the Congress.

It may be mentioned that Trinamool and Congress had won 15 seats in the civic body polls but could not come to a compromise for the mayor’s post. So the Congress turned to the Left while Trinamool decided to sit in the opposition.

The fact is that the Siliguri situation couldn’t have happened without the blessings of the Congress and Left high commands. Considering that this could happen again in Delhi or 2011’s West Bengal Assembly polls, the Congress-Trinamool alliance is now certainly under the scanner.
