Major Let-up, Railway Ad Shows Delhi in Pak, Kolkata in Bay of Bengal

In a serious let-up, an advertisement appearing in almost all the leading newspapers showed Delhi situated in Pakistan and Kolkata in the Bay of Bengal, leaving the authorities of Indian Railways red-faced, said media reports.

The said advertisement was inserted in newspapers by the Eastern Railway on the day of inauguration of Maharajas’ Express from Kolkata to Nalanda by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, said reports.

Map in advertisement showed the route of the train, from Kolkata to Delhi via Gaya, Varanasi, Bandhabgarh, Khajuraho, Agra and Gwalior, reports said.

Delhi, in the faint background of the map, was shown to be located in Pakistan and Kolkata in the Bay of Bengal, said reports.

“It is a great mistake. We apologise for this. The advertising agency has been suspended,” ER Chief Public Relations Officer Samir Goswami was quoted as saying.

Reports quoted the owner of advertisement agency as saying that the route alignment was give for the benefit of passengers.
