Maharashtra Govt Seeking Legal Advice to Act against Saamna

Amid recent controversies on Mumbai and exclusion of Pakistani cricketers from IPL, the Maharashtra government is seeking legal opinion on action against Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamna’, reported CNN-IBN.

Talking to news channel CNN-IBN, state Home Minister RR Patil said that legal department was asked to provide its opinion regarding action against Saamna.

The minister also told that the department was provided a fortnight’s time to give its response on the issue.

The action, if it is taken, will be taken under Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code which acts against those promoting communal disharmony and enmity.

While, chief minister Ashok Chavan said that government would take action against Shiv Sena mouthpiece and its leaders, said report.

“Maharashtra government is watching content in Saamna and Sanjay Raut’s (Saamna Editor) statements closely. We will take strict action on them if they continue to cross the limits,” Chavan was quoted as saying.

Raut said that any attempt to censor would fail in breaking the spirit of the party, said report.

“We are used to such censorship attempts since the time of Bal Gangadhar Tilak. We will not bow down,” Raut was quoted as saying.
