Maharashtra, Chh’garh Police Jointly Hunting for Maoists

Within hours of killing of 17 policemen by Maoists, the Maharashtra government has initiated a massive manhunt for rebels along the state’s border with Chhattisgarh.

Needless to add, rebels killed around 17-20 policemen in an ambush in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, which shares border with Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

Reports suggest that the Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra police are carrying out a joint combing operation even though the encounter with Maoist continues.

In the operation, more than 4000 personnel have been employed, said reports.

According to intelligence reports, several Maoists cadres have crossed over to Maharashtra from Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh with an aim to disrupt the assembly elections scheduled to be held on October 13 in the state.

The state government, reportedly concerned about the families of the policemen killed, is chalking out a package for them.
