Maha ATS Chief KP Raghuvanshi Removed, Rakesh Maria to Take Charge

Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) supremo KP Raghuvanshi has been removed from his post, with Joint Police Commissioner (Crime Branch-Mumbai) Rakesh Maria replacing him, said media reports.

According to reports, state government gave no official reason for the sudden removal, but talks doing the round suggested that Raghuvanshi faced the ire for ‘carelessly’releasing sensitive information regarding terrorist activities to the media.

Raghuvanshi had disclosed in a press conference that arrested terrorists in Mumbai – Abdul Latif and Riyaz Ali – were receiving instructions from a person called ‘Uncle’ or ‘Chacha’ from Karachi, reports said.

Intelligence officials were keeping a close vigil on ‘Chacha’ Bashir Khan, a key aide of the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and also an accused in 1993 Mumbai blasts.

Following disclosure by Raghuvanshi, Bashir was alerted and went silent.
