Left Leaders Court Arrest Protesting against Inflation

Top leaders and activists of left parties have court arrested today in New Delhi after staging a massive demonstration as part of their nation-wide protest against the government’s ‘failure’ to tame inflation, reported PTI.

Police said that arrested leaders include Prakash Karat (CPM), AB Bardhan and D Raja (CPI) and Abani Roy (RSP), said report.

Report said that a group of activists attempted to break into the Parliament Street Police Station and police had to resort to water cannons to dispel the crowd.

Earlier in the morning, the activists assembled at Jantar Mantar shouting slogan against the government, as part of a nation-wide ‘jail bharo’ agitation announced by the four Left parties, said report.

With a view to intensify the anti-price rise agitation, the CPM started preliminary consultations with other secular opposition parties like the TDP, JD(U), SP, BSP and RJD, report said citing party sources.

CPM had earlier announced that it plans to mobilise around 25 lakh people across the country for the ‘jail bharo’ agitation against price rise.
