Kasab Often Switches Stand as ‘al-Qaida’ Manual Advises So: Nikam

Special public prosecutor in 26/11 trial Ujjwal Nikam has said that the only surviving attacker of the Mumbai terror attacks Amir Ajmal Kasab has been pursuing the ‘al-Qaida’ manual by switching his stand quite often but it will not affect the case, said media reports.

Speaking to reporters outside the court, Nikam said that ‘al-Qaida’ manual urges a person trained in terror activities that he should try to derail probe and court proceedings by switching his stand frequently, reports said.

“This is exactly what Kasab has been doing,” Nikam was quoted as saying.

In an earlier confession before a magistrate, Kasab had said that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had executed the Mumbai terror attacks and all the ten attackers, including him, came from Pakistan to commit the dastardly strikes.

Four months later, he retracted his statement and then again, during the trail, pleaded guilty. He partly accepted guilt and partly denied his involvement, saying he had not fired at people but was only following his leader Abu Ismail, who was shot dead by police.

Also, he denied killing Amarsinh Solanki, navigator of ‘Kuber’ boat by which attackers had come from Pakistan, besides disowning his earlier statement on killing constable Tukaram Omble, saying that it was given under police duress.

Later, he switched stand, telling court that he made the guilty plea under police pressure.

Finally, he took a stand that he was not a terrorist and had come from Pakistan on a tourist visa, alleging that he was framed up in the case.

“I am happy that trial has come to an end. We have highlighted all aspects of conspiracy and exposed curtain pullers of the attack. This is the first terror trial case in India which has been completed in shortest possible time,” Nikam was quoted as saying.
