Karunanidhi Appeals for Buying, Promoting Khadi
Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi has urged people in the state to buy more khadi products to lend a helping hand to the rural workforce involved in the trade.
While giving out his Gandhi Jayanti greetings in Chennai, Karunanidhi appealed to the people to use the occasion to buy and wear more khadi products.
“This will help the rural workforce which is involved in making khadi products,” he said in an official release.
He said that Mahatma Gandhi had publicized the idea of khandi products as means of employment for the rural people and emphasized the need to promote them.
The state government is promoting the sale of khadi through the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) with central assistance and is offering year-long discount of 30 per cent on such products, he said.
