Kalmadi Rules out Making Amitabh Ambassador for Commonwealth Games
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Chairman Suresh Kalmadi has ruled out appointing Hind film actor Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, said media reports.
“Amitabh Bachchan will not be the brand ambassador for Commonwealth Games,” Kalmadi was quoted as saying.
He made the remarks at a function at the house of Delhi Chief Minister Shieli Dikshit.
Kalmadi’s statement is being seen as another rebuke by the Congress to the actor, who has been facing flak from Congressmen after he became the brand ambassador of BJP-ruled Gujarat.
On Monday, BJP had written to Kalmadi urging him to make Amitabh brand Ambassador for Commonwealth Games.
Senior BJP leader VK Malhotra, also the IOC Vice President and an executive member of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, sent the letter backing Amitabh as Commonwealth Games brand ambassador saying the actor is an ‘icon for youngsters’.
