Justice Dinakaran Asked to Proceed on Leave

The Supreme Court collegiums has urged Karnataka High Court Chief Justice PD Dinakaran, who is facing corruption charges, to go on leave, said media reports.

Following allegations of involvement in land grabbing, Justice Dinakaran has not been performing judicial work since December last.

As he proceeds on leave, Justice Madan B Lokur will take his place as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, reports said.

According to reports, the SC collegium, led Chief Justice of India (CJI) KG Balakrishnan, took the decision amid concerns that judicial work could suffer in the high court in Dinakaran’s absence.

Justice Dinakaran had stopped hearing cases after the Rajya Sabha admitted a motion for his removal on corruption charges.

Prior to the allegations, the SC collegium had recommended the elevation of Justice Dinakaran as Supreme Court judge in August 2009.
