Jaitley, Rajnath Share Dais, Cold Vibes

An eerie silence hung between BJP president Rajnath Singh and senior party functionary Arun Jaitley who stuck to their guns on Saturday, despite sharing the dais with eachother and other leaders at a function marking the release of the party IT vision document.

Jaitley is up in arms against Rajnath Singh and others in what he terms a “principled but loyal rebellion,” over the appointment of Delhi businessman Sudhanshu Mittal as party co-in charge of political affairs for the northeastern states.

Though, Jaitley refuses to speak over the matter, camp followers say the Mittal appointment is in a line of wrong decisions Rajnath Singh has taken due to extraneous reasons.

Barely a month to go for LK Advani’s prime ministerial tryst with destiny, serious trouble has left the BJP struggling.

On Friday, Jaitley was conspicuously absent from two BJP central election committee meetings in New Delhi.

Refusing to comment on Jaitley’s absence, former BJP president, Venkaiah Naidu had said: “I do not discuss internal matters outside party forums.” he was speaking in between the back to back meetings.

Many in the party agree that coming in the midst of election preparations the bickering between senior leaders will not help the party and send out the wrong signal to the cadres, especially as they come in wake of partner BJD’s decision to snap out of an 11 year old alliance with the saffron outfit.

Jaitley supporters, however, remain unfazed and wish to draw attention to “larger ethical issues.”
