It’ll be Trinamool or Left in UPA, Irked Mamata Tells Cong

Anguished over the repeated attempts by the Congress to woo the Left back into the UPA, Trinamool Congress (TC) chief Mamata Banerjee blatantly warned that her party would leave the UPA in the event of the Congress-Left alignment post poll.

According to reports, Mamata Banerjee has made it clear to Congress leaders that they cannot have alliance with her party as well the Left together for the simple of their being rivals in West Bengal.

Moreover, she has allegedly told Congress leaders that AICC general secretary Rahul Ganhi’s words have demoralized her. Stressing that she cannot co-exit with the Left, she said that the Congress would have to choose between the two parties as its partner.

On Tuesday, Rahul said that the Congress was confident of forming next government at the centre, expressing hope that the Left would support a UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh.

“….on a lot of concepts we agree with the Left like education and health. There is a lot of meeting ground with the Left. There is absolutely no meeting ground with BJP for what they did in Gujarat and Karnataka and burnt Christians in Orissa. There is a lot of common ground to do with the Left. There is a reasonable amount of common space,” he said in a press conference in New Delhi.
