Irked over Alleged Gang Rape of Woman by Cops, Mob Gets Violent in Delhi

A mob, irked by alleged gang rape of woman by five policemen, one of them officer, pelted stones at a police station in New Delhi.

The woman alleged that the station house officer of Inderpuri police station in southwest Delhi raped her inside the police station with four other policemen.

According to her, a team of police came to her Inderpuri residence on Monday night looking for her husband, who, as per them, was involved in betting business.

“My husband was not at home and the cops asked me to come with them to the police station for questioning. They raped me by turns and later threatened me with dire consequences if I revealed the incident to anyone,” she told a news channel.

When the woman informed her husband of the incidence, he took her to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital.

“She was inconsolable and told me about the whole incident. I along with other family members took her to the hospital where doctors are treating her. I informed the police but they did not register any complaint,” said the woman’s husband.

Rajan Bhagat, Delhi police spokesperson said: “We cannot comment on the incident now as we are awaiting the medical report of the woman. The Crime Against Women Cell is investigating the matter.”

However, SK Sharma, chief medical officer at RML, said: “The preliminary medical report of the woman does not confirm rape and we have sent her clothes to the Forensic Science Laboratory, Rohini for further confirmation.”

An angry mob of about 200 people threw stones at the Inderpuri police station insisting that the complaint is registered.

The security outside the police station was increased and extra police force was deployed to handle the angry mob.
