Iqbal Singh Sworn in Puducherry Lt. Governor
Iqbal Singh (64) was sworn-in Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Puducherry on Monday, the former Rajya Sabha member and AICC secretary succeeds Govind Singh Gurjar, who died of cardiac arrest in April.
Singh was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Madras High Court Chief Justice H.L. Gokhle.
A battery of leaders, including Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs, Narayansami and Chief Minister Vaithyalingam, were present on the occasion.
Singh served as Rajya Sabha member between 1992 and 1998 and also severed as an AICC secretary for over a decade.
Speaking on the occasion, he promised further improvement of tourism infrastructure, acceleration of economic growth and equal opportunities for women and weaker sections.
Singh later inspected a guard of honour by the Puducherry police.
