Saradha scam: Supreme Court declines TMC plea for monitoring CBI probe
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday declined Trinamool Congress (TMC) plea to monitor the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the multi-crore Saradha scam case.

SC also rejected the allegations of West Bengal government and TMC that CBI has been selectively leaking information about probe to the media.

Refusing to entertain contempt plea filed against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and a minister for allegedly preventing CBI from carrying its probe, the Apex Court allowed prosecution of 193 non-Saradha cases in which charge sheet has been filed by the state police.

Probing the scam that came to limelight in April 2014, on the direction of the Supreme Court , CBI and Enforcement Directorate have questioned many Trinamool MPs.

The NDA Government on Wednesday sacked Home Secretary Anil Goswami for stalling the arrest of Congress leader Mantang Sinh in connection with Saradha scam.

Senior IAS officer L C Goyal on Thursday took over as the Home Secretary, succeeding Anil Goswami who was forced out last night in the wake of his alleged attempt to stall the arrest of Saradha scam accused Matang Sinh by CBI.

Goyal, a 1979-batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, was the Rural Development Secretary till now. He will have a tenure of two years from Thursday.
