IPL Fate Hangs in Balance

The fate of the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament continued to hang in balance on Monday with the Central establishment making it amply clear to promoters that it may not be able to spare para-military forces due to the Lok Sabha elections the tourney coincides with.

Despite an understandable strain on security agencies and a heightened terror threat India faces post 26/11, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continued its efforts to end the stalemate over finalising the IPL schedule.

BCCI efforts however failed to sway the establishment as the Home Ministry asked the board officials to prepare a new schedule for the league in association with State governments.

The IPL season was originally scheduled to commence on April 10.
