INS Saryu Launched in Vasco

The Indian Navy on Monday launched INS Saryu its new 105 meter class patrol vessel from the port town of Vasco in Goa. Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sureesh Mehta was the chief guest on the occasion.

Measuring 105 meters in length and 12.9 meters in breadth INS Saryu has a top speed of 25 knots.

Officials state that the vessel will primarily be responsible for meeting the increasing requirement of the Indian Navy for surveillance and accomplishing surface war-fare operations in order to prevent infiltration and transgression of maritime sovereignty.

This vessel will also be useful in ocean surveillance and monitoring of shipping line of controls, defense of offshore oil installation and other important offshore national assets, officials said.

Naval officials added that the ship can also be used to escort high value ships and fleet support operations.
