Indian Jurno Attacked in Australia Denies Assault as Racist

The Indian reporter who was attacked in Sydney while he conducted a sting operation to bring to light migration and education scams has said that the assault on her was not racial and the person who attacked her was a fellow Indian.

“I’m just very, very appalled with the Indian media assuming that this was a racist attack,” the 28-year-old reporter with ABC network, who was not identified by the channel, told ‘The Australian’ daily.

“I know it was not a racially motivated attack… It was absolutely not. My attacker looked like an Indian person and I was threatened in Hindi,” she said.

It may be mentioned that the reporter had received two threatening calls and was assaulted in inner city Sydney street on Saturday afternoon when a man wearing a turban came at her with an “almighty elbow to the right shoulder”.

The young reporter had gone undercover for ABC’s Four Corners programme during an investigation that aired on early this week, exposing widespread corruption in the enrollment of international student and migration sectors.
