Indian Air Force Seeks Permission to Fire in Self-defence

The Indian Air Force, for the first time ever, has pleaded for permission to fire back defence in Naxal affected regions.

According to media reports, the air chief admitted that the Air Force is awaiting a go-ahead from the Defence Ministry to fire in self-defence in regions affected by Naxals, whom Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described as India’s biggest threat.

The Indian Air Force has never fired back, not even in Kashmir. The only time it did was against Mizo insurgents in 1966.
