India Denies Pak’s Charge of Aiding Militants

External Affairs Minister SM Krishna has denied charges framed by a Pakistani army official that India is aiding terrorists in South Waziristan.

Krishna said that current developments in Pakistan are consequential and of “their own making” and that the country at present has no effective government.

“We have absolutely nothing to do with whatever is happening in Balochistan or whatever is happening within Pakistan. I think it is their own making,” Krishna was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India.

“I don’t think that there is any effective government functioning there.”

Recently, a Pakistani army spokesman had said that there was evidence of Indian “involvement” with the militants.

Pakistan’s army is engaged in a major offensive against al-Qaeda and the Taliban in South Waziristan, which has sparked a string of suicide bomb attacks in the country. About 300 people have been killed in the attacks since mid-October.

Pakistani’s chief military spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas said recently that Pakistani troops had recovered “Indian arms, ammunition, literature and medical equipment” from Sherwangi, a key militant base.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik had also recently alleged that India was supplying arms to the Taliban.
