India, China Sign Pact on Climate Change, Form JWG

Coming closer to a consensus stand on climate issues, India and China have announced formation of a Joint Working Group (JWG) to exchange views with respect to international negotiations on global warming.

JWG will convene meetings alternately in China and India every year and is expected to talk on respective domestic policies and measures and execution and implementation of related cooperative projects.

It may be noted that the JWG is part of the steps of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) aimed at enhancing cooperation on climate change issues signed by Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh and China’s Vice Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission Xie Zhenhua.

Ramesh said that the MoA was first of its kind for both China and India and the cooperation had fructified within the short span of less than a month.
