I didn’t owe my rank to Congress, avers Lalu
Scoffing at the demand of Bihar Congress leaders to dismiss him and Lok Jan Shakti Party supremo Ram Vilas Paswan from the Union Cabinet, Rashtriya Janata Dal Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said that he did not owe his rank to any favour of the Congress and attributed it public mandate.
He and Ram Vilas Paswan on Monday were inexorable in their verbal war against the Congress not only over the issue of the Babri Masjid demolition but also on their place in the Union Cabinet.
“You think I’m in the Union Cabinet because of any mercy from the Congress? I’m there because of the people’s mandate,” Lalu stressed.
Lalu gave this statement in reaction to the demand by the Bihar Congress chief Anil Sharma that the party’s central leadership should kick out both him and Paswan as Ministers.
Earlier at a public meeting on Sunday, RJD chief was critical of the Prime Minister for absolving the Congress of the blame for the demolition of the Babri Masjid and had charged that the role of the Congress was beyond doubt as it had remained a mute spectator.
