Home Minister asked Gujarat government to provide security to Bhatt and his family

NEW DELHI: On the basis of threat perception the Union home ministry on Tuesday asked the Gujarat government to provide adequate security to suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, his wife Shweta Bhatt and other family members.

Earlier Shweta Bhatt wrote a letter to the home minister P Chidambaram, requesting for security amid apprehension of grave threat on her husband’s and family members’ lives.

The union home ministry is meanwhile also independently assessing the threat perception.

The home ministry has asked the state to provide the Bhatts adequate security on the basis of “local” threat perception.

Bhatt was arrested on September 30 in connection with an FIR filed against him by state police constable KD Pant in June for allegedly threatening him and making him sign false affidavits regarding a meeting by chief minister Narendra Modi on February 27, 2002 after the Godhra train incident.
