“Haat of India” at Bhopal from today

Bhopal: Planned efforts are being made to provide market to products of self-help groups of Madhya Pradesh’s rural areas under the concept of inclusive growth. Apart from cultural diversity in Madhya Pradesh, its rural products have their special quality and features. As per Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s wish and initiatives of Madhya Pradesh Livelihoods Forum, selected rural products are being provided international market as “Made in MP” through effective forum “Haat of India”. It will benefit thousands of members of SHGs of Madhya Pradesh since they will get good prices for their products.

For giving a major shape to these efforts a conference of producers, sellers and exporters from China and India will be held at Bhopal Haat here from December 21 to 23. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will inaugurate Haat of India on December 21 at 10.30 am at Hotel Marriott. The event will be held under the aegis of Madhya Pradesh Livelihoods Forum with the cooperation of India-China Economic and Cultural Council. Chinese ambassador to India Shri Wei Wei and a number of VIPs will be present at the inaugural function including President of India-China Economic and Cultural Council Shri P.S. Devdhar, Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa and senior officers of Union and state governments.

During the business session after inauguration at “Haat of India”, Additional Chief Secretary Panchayats and Rural Development Smt. Aruna Sharma will discuss important aspects of industrial development in China’s rural areas. On the occasion, a presentation will be given by former Director of Guangzhou Economic Development Zone Shri Han Ke Nan on the “China’s experience of economic zone development.” Later, Sushri Liu Yang Yan, Secretary China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) will express views on cooperation and opportunities between Madhya Pradesh and Shenzhen. Shri Lin Yang Nan, Director, Modern Agricultural Equipments Institute of China will give a video presentation on “Agriculture Miracle and the role of Agro-Technology potential for partnership.” In the last session of the inaugural day, Principal Secretary New & Renewable Energy Shri S.R. Mohanty, Principal Secretary Farmers Welfare & Agriculture Development Dr. Rajesh Rajora, Additional Managing Director, TRIFAC, Shri Kiran Gopal and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Shri Raghavendra Singh will give presentations in front of Chinese representatives.

About 150 representatives of 75 industrial establishments of China and representatives of Madhya Pradesh and other states of the country have arrived to participate in Haat of India. The Chinese industry representatives will also evince interest in establishment of industries and investment in rural areas of the state. About 1000 SHGs will also participate. At the Haat, best products of 50 selected SHGs will be displayed.

It is noteworthy that economic growth of Madhya Pradesh can be given a new direction through effective use of state’s immense natural and mineral resources. With this in view, initiative will be taken for quality products by upgrading technical knowledge of self-help groups. Neighbouring country China has achieved unprecedented progress through rural entrepreneurship. Working on these lines, quality of state’s rural products will be improved and provided international market. Haat of India will become an effective platform for production of traditional products through modern and latest techniques and provide them international market.

In the state, successful efforts have been made to ensure economic development of rural BPL families by forming their self-help groups through District Poverty Initiative Project and State Rural Livelihoods Mission. Through Haat of India, initiative will be taken to further strengthen women financially ensuring their role in rural economy. This novel initiative will help in garnering investment in small and cottage industries in the rural areas of Madhya Pradesh. It will also further promote women’s participation in rural economy of the state.
