Hearing on Case against CBI’s Withdrawal of Bofors Case Deferred

A Delhi court, hearing a petition filed by a lawyer raising objections to CBI’s withdrawal of the two-decade-old Bofors pay-off case against Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, has adjourned its order on the application.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja deferred the case for November six to announce an order on a plea filed by advocate Ajay Agarwal.

Agarwal has challenged the CBI’s decision to drop the case against Quattrocchi on October 3, arguing that it was truing to close the “politically-sensitive” case in spite of “sufficient evidence” against him.

CBI had sought the withdrawal of the Bofors scam case against Quattrocchi on the base that “continuance of his prosecution will be unjustified”.

The investigating agency had submitted that it has arrived at this conclusion after its failure on two occasions to extradite the businessman from Malaysia and Argentina to face trial.
